Mason Holgate: The Leader Everton Needs?

Mason Holgate has grown into the Everton side this season and turned in some fantastic performances that resulted in the club offering him a new 5-year deal which he signed in March. Holgate has impressed Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti and his staff with his performances and the maturity he has shown this season.

Barry Cass and Peter McPartland discuss whether Holgate can become an influential leader in the Everton side under Ancelotti. Holgate, who was bought from Barnsley in 2015, made his debut in 2016 under Ronald Koeman and has played for Sam Allardyce, Marco Silva and now Ancelotti already in his Everton career. The young Yorkshire man also spent some time on loan at West Bromwich Albion last season.

His performances this season led to former England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand calling him ‘one of the best young centre backs in the country’, as well as leading to calls for Holgate to be given full international honours.
