Everton booked their place in the last 16 of the FA Cup with a routine victory over Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday evening.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin had the Premier League side ahead in the 29th minute with a goal after some neat team build-up play before two deadly James Rodríguez deliveries from corners allowed Richarlison and Yerry Mina to get in on the act.

The Blues dominated the game with a high degree of comfort as Sheffield Wednesday hardly tested Robin Olsen in goal. Possession came easy for the Toffees with players like Andre Gomes as well as the back four able to get on the ball consistently with little to no pressure.

It was an indifferent game for Richarlison who started the game brightly running in behind and ended up putting the ball in back of the net after a sublime James Rodriguez pass only for his effort to be called offside. The Brazilian proceeded to struggle to get into the game, failing to get past his man and generally looking disinterested in the game as a whole. Despite this, he notched his sixth goal of the season after he headed in a James corner. The winger’s attitude has been questioned on numerous occasions this season as the player fades in and out of games from time to time.

A performance that did stand out was that of James Rodriguez who looked backed to his best after the midfielder had suffered an injury that saw him sidelined for around two months. The Colombian maestro was a class above every other player on the pitch, finding intricate and accurate passes and skipping past challenges with ease. Fans will be hopeful James can bring this performance into the league when Everton face Leicester on Wednesday.

There was also time for history to be made as at the age of 16 years and 176 days, substitute Thierry Small became the club’s youngest ever player beating the previous holder Jose Baxter by fifteen days.

The Toffees will now face either Tottenham or Wycombe Wanderers in the next round.
