Time to take the FA Cup seriously

return to archives

If we get knocked out of the FA Cup then in essence our season is over! Due to a ridiculous fixture congestion, tired players and confidence being finished for so many players after the Anfield trip – our team looks so average right now. People who’re calling for Marco Silva’s head are completely ludicrous, when you’re building anything of significance one of the prerequisites to any sort of success is ensuring you have a solid plan and that you dedicate yourself to it day in and day out regardless to the situation. If your progress doesn’t look like a hockey stick and more like waves in the ocean then you’ll most likely be judged on the level of resilience you show at trying times?

Everton is no different, how on earth sections of our supporters think we could fix all the problems of the last few years in one transfer window is completely beyond me???
Social Media really does give a stage to the uneducated, the drunk or the completely obnoxious to vent their anger with hopelessly poor opinions and suggestions. I was born in 1982 so can’t say I really remember much of any of our 80’s teams other than loving a few players and watching old video tapes of past glories, I do however remember 1995 and the FA Cup success. It’s embarrassing that we still talk about this success but hey ho shit happens and we’ve been bang average for years!
For the first time in my living memory the club have a new ground approved, money, a decent squad and a manager who actually set’s his teams out to have a go. We’ve literally never had a Director of Football who actually knows what he’s doing so at the start of the season we all pretty much agreed that this year was going to be a little bit annoying as this poor lad Marco needs to come in and sell 50% of his squad and replace the majority with players who are Champions League quality????
ALARM BELLS!!! This is not a game of Football Manager and the last time I checked a few other sides in the league have as much or more money than we do. We need to give this manager and these players a bit of time to turn this ship around, this football club is no small speed boat that can be turned in an instant it takes a lot of time and effort to move such a large cruise liner like ours. The progress made recently has been exponential! we’ve pretty much sacked the board and started again, we do in my opinion need to move Blue Bill on as he’s not fit for purpose in the modern world of technology but either way WELL DONE Everton for starting this lengthy process. I have no doubt in my mind that our Director of Football Marcel Brands has this. We might not see the results until after the next window but come on why are we all losing our heads so much????

We all need reminding that we most likely need five or six more players before we’re ready to challenge the top six teams in the division, I encourage you to read through the squads of these sides and ask yourself the question how many of those teams have players who would walk in to our starting 11?
I for one am not too disappointed at recent results, sure it’s annoying but I’ve developed quite the think skin when it comes to following our team. It will only highlight the real issue that we don’t have a very good side and to push on we’ll need more quality. I think that playing three at the back is not such a bad shout, we have three really strong central defenders and in my opinion Gana might be the worst ball player we have at the club. I’d prefer us to not rely on having such a disruptive one dimensional water carrier in the midfield and instead have a player who can pass the ball forward successfully. The main issue with playing a defensive midfielder like Gana is that if he’s injured we literally have nobody to come in and replace him.
In my opinion I thing Bernard is a very talented player who’s wasted on the wing, I’d play him as a number 10 whilst playing two strikers in front of him. If we’ve somebody like Gylfi Sigurdsson receiving the ball a bit deeper then I feel we’d see much better passages of football being played.
I think Richarlison is more dangerous when he can roam off each wing and get on the shoulder of the last defender, if he has a target man to play off with three players behind him who are capable of picking him out then I honestly think we win all of our games against opposition outside the top six.
Why not take the FA Cup seriously and try and win the darn thing??? Why not pick the following team and give the side a chance to play this system against a poorer team? You can always bring Lookman in for Bernard and Walcott in for Richarlison if they need a rest. I personally would prefer to qualify for the next round of a cup competition rather than play well against the Cherry’s.

Come blues let’s treat every FA Cup game like a Final – I’m over talking about Amokachi and Rideout et al!
