VLASIC LEAVES. WHO WILL BE NEXT TO GO?

Nikola Vlasic has agreed to join CSKA Moscow on a permanent transfer. The deal is reportedly a five-year contract, worth around £14m. Make sure to check out the Toffee TV YouTube channel for more transfer news:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WxVumiT3NA&t=8s

Having only signed for Everton in August 2017, the Croatian made just 19 appearances on Merseyside. Vlasic was on loan at CSKA Moscow during the 2018/19 season, and impressed at the Russian side. He even scored in the Champions League during an impressive win against Real Madrid.

It was widely expected that Vlasic may leave Everton, with him seemingly wanting the move away. Furthermore, it would be difficult to see him playing very much next season.

Financially, it’s a good move for Everton. Profit will be made from the player, with a rumoured sell-on clause in the contract potentially making the deal even more lucrative.

As well as the transfer fee, the selling of Vlasic will contribute to a reduction in the wage bill. This should encourage Everton to bring in new players. Having said this, there’s still too many players under-contract who may need to make way in order for new signings to be arrive.

Along with Vlasic, Henry Onyekuru is another young player who may be sold very soon. Onyekuru probably holds the most financial value out of any of the potential Everton outgoings. After experiencing a successful loan spell at Galatasaray, clubs around Europe have been circling to secure the signature of the young Nigerian. A move away seems likely to happen for Onyekuru very soon.

There’s a very long list of other players who may be surplus to requirements at the club include Ashley Williams, Cuco Martina, Maarten Stekelenburg, Luke Garbutt, James McCarthy, Mo Besic, Morgan Schneiderlin, Yannick Bolasie, Kevin Mirallas, Theo Walcott, Sandro, Cenk Tosun, Oumar Niasse, and Ademola Lookman. Realistically, it’s very unlikely that all of these players will leave. At this moment, it seems Onyekuru, Williams, Martina, McCarthy, Besic, Mirallas and Bolasie are all almost certainties to leave.

Similarly to Vlasic and Onyekuru, Lookman may have acquired sufficient demand in the market to attract a decent transfer fee. It remains to be seen as to whether Everton want to keep the player. He’s clearly very talented, but seems disinterested at times, and perhaps doesn’t play as much as he needs to fulfil his potential.

Despite being involved with the first team quite regularly, both Morgan Schneiderlin and Theo Walcott could be sold this summer. However, both are on big contracts with expensive wages. Unless they were to take sizable wage cuts, it’s unlikely that other clubs would be willing to take them on.

There’s also too many strikers at the club; strikers who are no longer needed. Tosun, Niasse, and Sandro all could be looking for moves elsewhere. Niasse may have joined Cardiff permanently if they had stayed in the Premier League. Without this move materialising, he may be interested in a move abroad. Tosun is likely to stay for now, but may be targeted by lower-league Premier League sides, or by former club, Besiktas.

Meanwhile, Sandro appears to be evidently unwanted by Everton, and potentially of no interest to clubs elsewhere. This may be the same for Kevin Mirallas, who could also to struggle to find a new home.

It remains to be seen which players will be sold, but there’s a long list of individuals who could follow Vlasic out of the door. These players may need to leave in order to fund potential incoming signings such as Gomes, Zouma, a new striker, and winger.
