What’s going on right now…

How can any self-respecting Premier League side who has spent over three hundred million pounds be so awful at defending set pieces? I’ve gone back to watch all 16 goals that we’ve conceded in all competitions from dead ball situations and in almost every one Jordan Pickford doesn’t cover himself in glory, he’s awful at commanding his six-yard area! The zonal marking is equally terrible and the insistence to put four players defending the front post with nobody on the posts is baffling to me. Before everybody’s heads fall off at my criticism of Jordan Pickford go punish yourself again and watch the goals for yourself you’ll see just how terrible this aspect of his game really is. Personally, I think he’s a fantastic shot-stopper with the ability to pass a ball as good as any outfield player in the squad when given time. He’s young and we need to support him, I’m sure he’ll improve to become a long term number one for both club and country but Marco Silva should not take all the blame for the inept defending of his team. Neville Southall was amazing at coming for crosses he would get clattered in the air and still win everything if any player missed a header they would hear about it from grumpy Nev. Hopefully, Pickford and the Everton defenders can step up or Marco Silva changes his tactics as this can’t carry on!

Why do Watford Football Club feel the need to make a massive rivalry with us? We took their Manager which they should thank us for and we bought Richarlison for fifty million pounds a player who had not played well for them in months? I genuinely don’t understand it and as Kevin Keegan once said “I would love it if we beat them”. I personally think the next two games could be the most pivotal for Marco Silva, if he loses in the same manner as we have done in certain games this year then the whole Everton support will turn on him and that is very hard to turnaround. I hope we can win both our next two away games and I hope he’s not too stubborn to change his tactics.

It’s great to see Kenny, Lookman, Davies and Calvert-Lewin playing more minutes, personally I’d start with them all and would give them all an extended run in the first team, we’ll not qualify for Europe and will not get relegated so why not play them from now until the end of the season? I’d love to see us drop Gana – everybody carries on how what a great player he is because PSG wanted to buy him, I think our Midfield would be better off without him and I’d like us to play with a 4,3,3 formation. I think we need pace in our attack and I think we need to counterattack more, with Richarlison and Lookman we have two excellent options to support a centre forward whether that’s Calvert-Lewin or Cenk.

So seen as this is ToffeeTV and I’m finding talking about this current shower of shit depressing – why don’t you go reach for a beer out of your fridge, put your feet up and watch these video’s from 1984 when we were great! Whatever we do against Watford let’s not forget the good times and the reason we love our Everton!!!

For our younger readers the FA Cup was viewed like todays Champions League, people who didn’t enjoy football would always sit down for the cup final it was a massive deal and the TV coverage was liturally all day! This is a video of our boys on the way to the ground.

This video starts with the players getting woken up at the hotel the morning of the match then follows the coach into the ground the 1980’s feel and look like a lot of fun #bevies!

The Final of 1984 was the start of our 80’s team’s momentum, 100,000 fans attended this game!

Solid post match interviews with the boys…
