The winter break is nearly over and during this long period it has given me a chance to reflect on the past season. Everton has gone from a relegation with Marco Silva to a champions league battle under Carlo Ancelotti.

Towards the end of the season Everton made Goodison Park a fortress by beating Man United , Chelsea and Arsenal (Plus drawing against Liverpool which in result cost them the league). From these results have the fans some hope of pushing on and challenging for a top 4 placement in the following season and we started the season on how we finished it beating Wolves 3-2 in a very close game. However our away form was terrible and resulted in losing easy games such as Aston Villa and Bournemouth. Everton’s form began to take a downward trend and the loss of the Sheffield United game destroyed Everton’s great run at Goodison, Everton form continued to dwindle and Marco Silva got sacked due to the poor run of form.

As the search for the new Everton boss was undertaken a club hero took the reigns of a dismantled Everton side and brought a sense of unity and a desire to fight for the badge that some of the players were missing. During his short tenure Duncan Ferguson managed to not lose a league game and narrowly missing out on a League Cup semi-final to an inform Leicester City side. Duncan Ferguson is the only manager in Everton’s history not to lose a league game.

Everton managed to get the services of one of the greatest managers in the modern day. Carlo Ancelotti. This appoint excited every Evertonian as it showed the direction the club was heading in and with the guidance of Marcel Brands and Carlo Ancelotti. Ancelotti has brought a calmness to Everton and showed the players never to give up and fold like what we had seen at Brighton earlier in the season. This is highlighted at the Watford game especially after going from 2-0 down to winning the game at the death with a Theo Walcott goal. As an Evertonian I am extremely excited for what the future holds for our club and especially with the players and youth we have in our possession. At the moment Everton are in a scrap for one of the Europa League places but potentially could manage to snatch a champions league place due to Man City’s FFP ban.

If you had told me if Everton had a chance to get a Champions League place at the start of October it would have dismissed immediately but this shows the expertise of Ancelotti and the key turnaround under Duncan Ferguson.
